Job Description
Currently, more than 1800 students are learning at GESS supported by more than 400 full time and part time academic and administrative staff members. In August 2018 GESS moved to Dairy Farm Road to a modern new school campus located at the edge of Singapore’s largest nature reserve.
The Head of Technology Operation will be responsible for school-wide technology systems, creating, executing, and maintaining the school technology plan, technology team staff management, and the technology budget’s financial management.The Head of Technology Operations will have responsibility for planning, coordinating, and directing all the Technology Team’s daily activities as well as providing direction and solutions that will enhance the Technology Team’s operations. This role will be responsible for leading a team of engineers in various teams across Back Office Support and Service Desk as well as, but not limited to some of the following key areas:Strategy and IT Infrastructure
- Creates and implements IT policies and procedures that enable strong security and risk-management capabilities.
- Explores new technologies and software as appropriate and, in conjunction with the Director of Technology, overseeing the architecture and implementation of the ongoing support of the network, server, and communications infrastructure to ensure the high availability of all systems.
- In charge of business continuity and disaster recovery within the department and the recommendation and implementation of new investments within the technology infrastructure.
- Assumes the responsibility for oversight of the entire network and system infrastructure, ensuring proper configuration, implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of security firewalls, sites/software, servers, data and file encryption, and internet connections
- Play a strategic role in the Technology Team, coordinating the selection, implementation, and upgrade of its software/applications and services.
- Implements and documents a business recovery strategy to resume operations of the system architecture in a disaster.
- Establishes security architecture and implements procedures and controls that ensure that information and data are secure and in compliance with the business’s security and storage regulations.
- Leads the process and team members in the analysis, enhancement, and tailoring of current practices and existing systems to increase operating efficiencies and reduce costs.
- Establishes operational and capital budgets to address the needs of various IT department areas, for example, system infrastructure, security, networks, and databases.
- Ensures adherence to the business’s overall financial objectives, tracks the annual departmental expenditures, and directs its financial needs in conjunction with the financial department.
- Builds a collaborative culture within the department and partners with various departments within the organization.
- Together with the Director of Technology, the Head of Technology Operation will collaborate with the financial department to decide the IT department’s financial needs and the financial allocation amongst departmental teams.
- Works closely with the Director of Technology in the business technology planning process and the analysis of existing systems
- Diploma / Degree in Information Technology, Engineering, or similar subject
- Min 10 years’ experience in IT infrastructure and network support
- Good communication skills
- Ability to work either individually or in a team.
- Knowledge of Fortinet, Cisco, Apple, Microsoft, and VMWARE technologies.
- Experience working in an educational environment.
- Ability to build, manage, mentor, inspire, and provide direction to the IT team
- Resourceful and quick to learn IT environments and build relationships across organizations
- Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment to drive results.
- Enthusiastic problem solver with advanced critical and strategic thinking skills
