Data Engineer
This is an awesome opportunity to disrupt a 500 year old industry and conduct predictive analytics with satellite data. We’ve been asked by a global shipping company to help them digitize their ocean going vessels in an effort to reduce their carbon footprint. To ensure the success of this venture we are hiring many technologists. The Data Engineer will be an integral part of this marine group. You will be responsible for system data design, maintenance of core recommendation engine, and everything else we do with data (ingestion, cleaning, query, etc).

Due to the current COVID-19 related visa/travel restrictions enacted by MOM and ICA, we're currently unable to extend offers to anyone unable to work from Singapore due to visa/travel restrictions. Consequently, we will be prioritizing candidates who can start in Singapore by set date as expected. We're closely watching the situation and may adjust our position should restrictions be eased at a later date.
Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain optimal data pipeline architecture,
- Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.
- Build and maintain the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and ‘big data’ technologies such as HDFS.
- Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into key business performance metrics.
- Work with stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data and Design teams to assist with data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs.
- Create data tools for data scientist team members that assist them in building and optimizing our product.
Requirements
Qualifications:
- We are looking for a candidate with 5+ years of experience in a Data Engineer role, who is equipped with a degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, Information Systems or another quantitative field. They should also have experience using the following software/tools:
- Proficiency with Google Cloud Platform and its data related features (Firebase, Datastore, BigQuery, Big Table etc)
- Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases
- Experience with relational SQL and NoSQL databases, including Postgres and Cassandra
- Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages: Python, Java, C++, Scala, etc
- Experience building and optimizing ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets
- Strong analytic skills related to working with unstructured datasets
